Thank you for this post. I like the idea of turning the main point of a text entry into an illustration by drawing the words. I've been highlighting my main point, but this looks way more fun! Also, thanks for including links for your previous posts. During "5 days 100 people" I was searching for my notes on your delightful instructions, but never found them and have been searching my old journals for them. Knowing the date you posted this helped me find my notes and my face-drawing experiments!
Thanks for these tips! With a new month beginning my energy levels are surging and I feel empowered to finally crack open that sketchbook/journal I've been sitting on. Always appreciate your inspiring artwork and advice! ✨
Hi Josh! I hope it's going well! The easiest is if you manage to put it into your routine. With me, it's when my kid does capoeira. The problem is, if she skips a class for whatever reason, I skip my journal practice as well :)
This is fantastic! I struggle with the ratio of text versus drawing and I never know how to balance this or how to position my drawings (aka composition). This is the first time I see this! Thank you!
My journal is of course much different. Often I am working in a moving vehicle. I try to work from pen as much as I can. If I do any pencil layout i erase and finish with water colors or watercolor pencils.
I'm a relatively new subscriber so I apologize if you've covered this elsewhere. Do you try to fill one page each week? I noticed on that last image in this post you have two entries on one page, three weeks apart. Is that typical?
Hi Kate, I try to fill one page per week, yes. Sometimes it doesn't happen though, but mostly it does. The good thing is, there are no rules here, only to have fun :)
Congrats on the regime change! That's good news!

Awesome, I'm glad it's helpful!
Thank you so much. It helps me well through some how to questions and motivates me to start journaling in a new way.
Supercool!

Great post. I would love to hear how much you use pencil and for what parts.
Hi Deb, I pencil out everything, the whole drawing. then once it's finished, I go over it with a pencil. Do you use a pencil first or straight to pen?

Thanks for all the tips on illustrating a journal. I plan to give it a try.

Great tips (from a part-time graphic recorder who loves the simple two-color approach)!
I never knew that Graphic Recorder could be a career option.
